About the role

Principal Planning Officer (Enforcement and Householder Team Leader)

Salary: £35,745 – £38,890 (plus £2,000 Market Supplement)

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for planning and a positive can-do attitude to join our friendly Development Management team.

Lichfield is one of the finest cathedral cities in the country, which offers an exciting challenge – protecting and enhancing a high quality environment while managing the delivery of sustainable economic growth.

Ideally situated in the heart of the Midlands, with our offices based in the historic centre of Lichfield, we are within easy reach of Birmingham and the district includes beautiful countryside including an area of outstanding natural beauty. This presents a broad range of development opportunities, challenges and pressures for the district.

You will lead an incredible team, which has responsibility for planning enforcement and high hedge matters, and planning householder/more minor applications. You will have direct line management responsibility and lead on the performance of the team. You will have the opportunity to make a real impact by being responsible for coaching and mentoring the junior officers within the team on developing their skills and experience. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of planning enforcement policy and procedures, provide support to the Planning Development Manager (PDM) on wider management matters and be an integral part of the Development Management team.

We are looking for a qualified planner (MRTPI) with significant experience of planning and/or enforcement, including within local government. You should demonstrate good organisational, communication and negotiation skills and have a positive approach to development management, with commitment to the Council’s values to improve & innovate, put customers first and have respect for everyone.

We offer flexible working arrangements, essential car user allowance, payment of RTPI professional fees, free car parking, together with a generous annual leave entitlement, local government pension scheme and a positive approach to employee wellbeing. There will be a hybrid model of working with some days home based and some days in the office to allow greater team collaboration.
